Premier Inn
Part of Whitbread plc, Premier Inn is the largest hotel brand in the UK. Whilst the vast majority of sites possess a Whitbread restaurant on-site, many have restaurant facilities provided by other operators.
Buckmark was engaged to work on a training DVD designed to ensure every Premier Inn throughout the estate was offering and delivering a first-class breakfast for guests.
In order to truly engage with the audience (every Premier Inn employee) the design brief demanded a high degree of reality and authenticity. This had to be balanced against the need to communicate very clear and detailed information about operational procedures.
To guarantee both aspects of the brief, the decision was taken to use professional actors to play the part of guests with employees appearing in their normal roles. Actors were carefully selected for their ability to ad-lib naturally around an outline script, whilst employees were required to simply do their normal job and deliver first-class service to their guests.
Filmed over two days on-site, including the in-house training kitchen, the resultant DVD was distributed throughout the business within four weeks of taking the initial brief.
